I work in an office where we have a "coffee club," and we all pay dues to have coffee in the breakroom. We typically buy Folgers in the plastic "cans." Every time one is empty, I snag it and keep it, because we don't recycle here and I can't bring myself to throw it away. I have five in my desk drawer now, and they are taking up space.
I was wondering if any of you green moms had some ideas of how I can reuse these things. They are actually pretty nice, plastic with snap-on lids. I was thinking maybe I could use them in the spring to plant some vegetable plants on our deck, but I don't know if they are quite big enough for that.

Your kids could cover/decorate them and then you could use them for toys. If they decorate the outside they'd be pretty enough to leave out in the toy room. They would be perfect for toys, Polly Pockets, crayons, etc.
Enjoy today because who knows what tomorrow will bring

I saw someone lay the coffee cans on their sides, stacked and glued in a pyramid configuration, and used as a "wine rack". I would think the bottles would topple out, but I assume if it wasn't functional, they wouldn't have presented the idea on the t.v. program. They spray painted their coffee cans first, but I think they may look cool if you just peeled off the labels and left them silver.

use it to store blocks and puzzle pieces (we have a ton that don't have boxes or are on boards)

This is one my mom used when I was a kid and I use for my kids today. When your kids are sick its a great vomit catcher(flush the vomit down the toilet and throw the can away)

jen, each of my kids have a 'throw-up bucket," for just such an emergency. These are all great ideas. Thanks, ladies.

I have used several of these plastic containers for flour, sugars, and all sorts of baking supplies. They have nice grip handles, hold alot and the lid keeps everything fresh. I am sure they would also work keeping cereal, pasta etc...... fresh.

Start Geocaching and you could put out several new caches! These containers would be perfect! You could hide little "treasures" for the kiddies and they would stay dry.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

You can also give them to a local pre-school or daycare. They will find a use for them.
I decorate them and use them to store craft supplies. Also as a Brown leader I put together Try-its in a Tin (coffee canister) and Badges in a Bucket (for the Juniors) these are the simpler try-it/badges and can be done with the materials in the container.

Crayon holders. We all know you can never contain ALL of the crayons, but its worth a shot!
