So I just know my kids are going to come home with a ridiculous amount of trick-or-treat candy. I'll let them eat some, of course, but not all of it. Their teeth would rot right out of their heads!! So what do you do with the extra candy??

After a week or so, when the novelty has worn off a bit, I raid their bags and pull out all the hard candies, suckers, etc., that will keep until summer. We do pinatas for birthdays -- perfect way to get a jump start! I also pull out all the Hershey chocolate bars and other candy bars that can be chopped up and made into chocolate chunk cookies. Yum!

Last thing is I pull anything red or green or whatever might make a nice addition to our Christmas gingerbread houses. That usually takes care of a good chunk of the candy stash.

How about you?

If my son takes cold lunch, I send a piece or two along for dessert. Then, after my husband and I are done raiding it, if there is still a bit left over, it goes out in the garbage. (Kind of wasteful, but our teeth -- and hinders -- don't need it!

I like the idea of putting the chocolate into cookies and bars!!  Luckily our kids didn't get an obnoxious amount this year so we don't have to worry about that.  We put the candy into a bowl and everyone shares. . . if the bowl is out of sight they kids tend to forget about it.

I'm making caramel apples today and now I wish I would have kept some of the candy bars!  I was thinking if I put them in the food processor, I could roll the caramel apples in broken M&Ms or some other kind of candy.  Oh well...I'll do that next year!

Also, I could chop up the candy bars and M&Ms in the food processor, and put it in the freezer for cookies or ice cream toppings.

It's probably a good thing but my kids don't always ask for candy. The pumpkin buckets are right on the kitchen counter but they don't really ask for the candy! My hubby and I will raid them here and there. But, with trying to watch our waistlines, I have a feeling we will have a lot of wasted candy. And it didn't help that I over-bought candy! We have five extra bags, on top of the little left over from handing out. We normally have a good turn out but the weather did not help this year!

So I don't know what to do with all the extra candy. I thought to freeze the chocolates and have for later snacking. I like the brownies and cookies idea. Maybe we'll try a gingerbread house this year although, ugh....seems like a lot of work.

My father in law had his two grandkids over on halloween. The youngest (mine son) is too little to get candy for trick or treating (only 10 months old), but Karli is 4 and got a bunch of candy. Mike made a deal with her. He said I'll buy you a toy in the morning if you give me all of your candy. At first she said no, but then quickly changed her mind. I thought this was a great idea because then the kids don't get strung out on sugar and rot their teeth out!

As for what to do with it--keep some for yourself and give the rest away at work
