Misplaced Fear: Resolving the Fear Around Vaccines and Autism
ImmunizeCOKids

Posted by ImmunizeCOKids on Nov 04, 2009 at 11:18 AM

“Thimerosal and the MMR vaccine do not cause autism.” Telling it like it is, Lydia McCoy, Executive Director of the Colorado Children’s Immunization Coalition, begins with a bang in her informative post for the Autism Science Foundation.

That’s right. You read correctly. An autism foundation supports the fact that vaccines do not cause autism. In fact, go to ASF’s website and you will not only find
links to information which discredits the autism/vaccine myth but powerful statements such as, “We still don’t know what causes autism, but we have learned what doesn’t cause it.  Numerous studies have failed to show a link between autism and vaccines.”

Lydia McCoy’s post, “Misplaced Fear: Resolving the Fear Around Vaccines and Autism,” amplifies ASF’s above statement; speaking especially to parents. McCoy eloquently empathizes with parents’ concerns and reasons for fearing vaccinations while explaining the history of the autism/vaccine myth, the MMR vaccine ingredient thimerosal, and why parents need to vaccinate.

So they're absolutely SURE that it doesn't cause autism? ugh These things irritate me.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this one....there are too many facts pointing to too many children who mysteriously became autistic almost immediately after vaccinations...children who were perfectly healthy with no symptoms/signs whatsoever and then directly after immunizations were diagnosed autistic.  My father has been a doctor for over 35 years and he said in all his years he 100% believes that the immunizations that are offered now are NOTHING like the immunizations many of us had when we were little.  He said that there is so much "junk" in the immunizations offered over the past 5-10 years that he would be scared to give them to children - especially in mass groupings of many together.  He said he was not surprised to see all of these issues arise and that he has been worried about this for quite awhile. I find it very, very hard to believe that children who were perfectly healthy, have had several years of 100% healthy yearly wellness checks and then immediately following vaccinations they are diagnosed with autism....and that it had nothing to do with the vaccinations.

I think that statement is a lot premature and possibly unprofessional in that it may not be entirely true given recent and ongoing research.

http://www.kwch.com/Global/story.asp?S=11242852

Specifically, the study found:

*****Thirteen newborn rhesus macaques were given a Hepatitis B vaccine containing a standardized dose of thimerosal adjusted for their weight, four received a saline placebo, and three were not given any shots.

******Vaccinated animals experienced a significant delay in the acquisition of three survival reflexes compared to unvaccinated animals. Root, snout, and suck reflexes, critical to animal survival in the wild, were delayed in the vaccinated macaques.

******These reflexes are controlled by the brainstem, a vital part of the brain that regulates automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, and intestinal activity.

******Neonatal responses in unvaccinated control animals were not delayed.

*******The delay in acquisition of three of the four survival reflexes was not contingent on birth weight or gestational age.

Having had some of my son's early vaccines in Colorado, this attitude sounds familiar.

From the mental health profession this is very frustrating. Actually what seems to be happening is the children seem to be born fine but those early months of development can vary so much from child to child. Roll over 3-9 months, sit 6-14 months (see what I mean) the chid at birth may seem fine but actually is developing at a slightly slower pace that seems to get slower and slower. Finally around the age of two (the same time these shots at given) the delays and withdrawls have become so apparent that they are now diagnosable. Hence the positive coorlation.

Your welcome.  It gets old hearing that there is no link.  I can tell you from personal experience that I saw a strong link, anecdotal evidence does have a place in medicine also.  I watched him deteriorate within the 2 weeks following his MMR at 13 months and then again with his 15 mo shots (told I was imagining things then too lol).

I've never believed that vaccinations cause autism. You get more mercury in a can of tuna than you do in any shot. No one wants to stop and think that environmental factors and/or genetics have something to do with it. They're just looking for someONE to blame.

Think about how many of you eat fish. Fish swim in the ocean. We know what kind of crap gets dumped in the ocean, and there's tons more that we DON'T know about. Add to that that some eat sushi, so there's no way for any of the contaminants to possibly get cooked out. You're putting the garbage that these fish have been swimming in directly into your system.

Think about all the stuff being put into milk (which is used to make cheese) and injected into the cows, poultry and pigs that we eat. Think none of that has had an effect on your or your your child's father's body - possibly leading to autism and a lot of the other multitude of diagnoses we have today?

Beppiboop -  I know this is off topic but can I get more information on the Biomedical/DAN protocal? Do I just google it?

You don't inject a vaccine into your bloodstream either.
