The Threat of Unvaccinated Children
ImmunizeCOKids

Posted by ImmunizeCOKids on Nov 04, 2009 at 10:45 AM

What do you take into consideration when you decide to vaccinate your child? Or, more importantly, who do you take into consideration when you decide to vaccinate your child? Believe it or not, your choice to vaccinate affects more than your child’s health. Did you consider the health of the neighbor’s kid? Or the little infant at daycare? What about the child with leukemia?

Choosing not to vaccinate is more than a personal choice because your choice can endanger another child’s life.

Stephanie Tatel, mother of two, knows this story all too well.  Her son has cancer and due to unvaccinated children, he cannot go into daycare.
Read the Tatel’s revealing story in Slate magazine.

Dawn, what I don't understand is if vaccinated children are supposedly protected, what is their parent's concerns with having unvaccinated kids around them?  Also, I've heard many doctors say that we are by-passing a child's immune system by vaccinating them instead of allowing them to build up a natural immunity.

Stephanie's story is sad, and it's so unfortunate that her son is ill with leukemia.  While my heart aches for her and her situation, as a mom, I have to look at the evidence of what vaccines can do and DO do, and make a decision whether or not I want this pumped into my child.  My answer is still no.

If you feel the risk of a disease outweighs the risk of the vaccination then vaccinate your child. Why would someone be so afraid that their vaccinated child will catch something from someone who is unvaccinated? Isn't that the purpose of vaccinations?

I personally do not vaccinate. My son has not received any. While I pity any child with any disease, the health of MY child comes first to me.

I don't understand why he cannot go to daycare. Just because a child is not vaccinated doesn't mean their sick. My son has never been sick, not so much as a cold, so what harm could a healthy child be?

My unvaccinated child doesn't put any other child at risk.

What did I consider when I chose not to vaccinate my last two?  The fact that the vaccines don't work - they didn't eradicate the diseases, the diseases were already gone or nearly gone when the vaccines were introduced.  I also took into account the poisons and chemicals in the vaccines.  I took into account that the medical community is very bold to make the blanket statement that all vaccines are safe - penicillin, wheat, even sunlight isn't safe for everyone, so it's impossible that vaccines are safe for everyone.  I took into account that unvaccinated children are healthier.  I took into account that the side effects are often more deadly than the diseases.  I took into account the fact that thinks like the flu shot absolutely do nothing at all period.   I took into account dozens of things and am 100% confident in my decision.

There's lots I took into account after speaking with my doctor and researching online and in the library.

Besides that, the thought that my daughters would have mumps dripping from their pores and putting a vaccinated child at risk is amusing.  Not only does my unvaccinated child have a great immunity (stronger than a vaccinated child!), she doesn't carry disease around.  And if vaccines work as great as everyone has bought into, what's the threat about being around my healthy unvaccinated child?  Hm - possibly a little insecurity about vaccinations?  Good!  Everyone should question them!

Yup - I love my decision, and I don't have any qualms or second thoughts about it.  I just drop to my knees and pray to God that I didn't harm my first two (and part of my third - she received a few vaccines before I got educated) and hope that as they age, the side effects from these vaccines don't endanger their lives with cancer, alzheimers, or any other disease.

Now, since I'm on a very mainstream site saying this, and 9 out of 10 of you will swear I'm wrong and stupid and endangering my child (and others?????  lol), I don't want to hear it.  I hope that the few of us on here that are armed with the unbiased information can help save one more child's life.  I don't care to hear how your doctor is never wrong and our research is, and on and on and on.  This is the decision I made based on great, valid, non-money-hungry-government-agency information, and no one in the world can convince me otherwise.  And I know I've made the right decision for my family.

Ladies, I would urge you all to READ the article that is being discussed before responding.  The issue here is the risk to children who are undergoing cancer treatment.  A child undergoing cancer treatment CANNOT be vaccinated and in many cases his or her prior vaccinations are rendered useless due to the fact that the immunity that was previously built up is wiped out by chemotherapy.

Actually, FOR NOW, it's highly likely that your NON vaccinated child is safe because of all of the parents that CHOOSE wisely to vaccinate, therefore greatly lower your child's risk of exposure to a possible fatal disease.

From the World Health Organization:

However, measles outbreaks still happen, even in countries where most people have been vaccinated. An outbreak is most likely to happen among small groups of children who haven't been vaccinated. This happened in a school in the Netherlands where only 7 in 100 children had been vaccinated.[2]

The studies also show fewer children now die from measles. But deaths do still happen, usually among children who haven't been vaccinated.

I would be mortified if my child died from something I could have easily prevented.

SandraStehly, i don't think you are wrong or stupid.  I think everyone needs to make the best decision for their children.  However, don't assume those of us who decided to vaccinate our children are not educated about vaccines and didn't do our homework.  Or that we think doctors are never wrong or how research is perfect.

I am not going to say anyone is wrong or right here.  I am just saying it's a personal decision and i can see where the OP is coming from with her personal situation.

So you are still inferring that my child has rubella dripping from her nose.  An unvaccinated child is NOT a sick child, nor are they a carrier of disease.  This is a ridiculous thought.

And I would take my chance with measles before I would take my chance with formaldehyde, mercury, detergents, aborted fetal matter, and unborn chicken fetuses, to name a few ingredients - this is all disclosed on the CDC website, not making it up.  I guess the EPA evacuating a building for a broken thermometer isn't the same as injecting thousands of times the "safe" amount of mercury into my child?  Nope, not for us.    I had chicken pox growing up, friends had mumps and measles, and we all did fine.  Since unvaccinated children have greater immunities and are healthier, we're in good shape.  I would be mortified if I gave my child an unnecessary poisonous shot and she died from the side effects.

We had a measles outbreak in AZ a year or two ago.  So yes, it can happen in the US too.

I do feel those who dont vaccinate can cause harm, though not necessarily to my vaccinated child.  If my son is vaccinted (which he is) then he shouldnt be getting sick of the things you can vaccinate for.  However those who do not vaccinate are putting others at risk of getting the sickness...mostly kids that are at risk, such as leukimia patients and so on.  I dont worry about unvaccinated kids being around my son, but I do worry about them in general...I dont necessarily want them around me because I no longer really get common vaccinations...I am deathly afraid of needles.  I am however choosing to take that risk, where as children can not make that decision for themselves.  I think its only right that daycares not take children who havent been vaccinated...they have to consider the health of everyone at the facility.
